In December 2021, People with Disabilities (WA) and Advocacy WA recruited people from across the Metropolitan area and Southwest to co-design a local community disability advocacy model. This model was developed, informed and directed by the co-design group.
The co-design group represented community members with disabilities, their family members and carers, alongside multiple local government representatives. All of which have diverse experiences and knowledge around community action and change. Over four months these passionate individuals dedicated their time, energy, experience, and expertise to design a model on how communities can maximize their impact and influence to foster positive change across WA.
Thanks to their efforts, local communities have access to a process, resources, and skills development opportunities to support their local community to collaborate with people with disabilities in solving issues that specifically impact them.
